January 2025 Dispatch
Welcome and we hope you enjoy this month’s Africa’s Sportsman Dispatch. We’ve got a good one for you this month with an exciting little adventure about hunting elephant, a recap and heads up about the smaller, regional Dallas Safari Club events — for those like myself who couldn’t get to Nashville for the “big show” — and we hear from Sonja Harmse over at Muvhimi Buffalo Safaris about the importance of booking a hunt in Africa.
As our feature story’s hunter, Jim Ellison, will tell you, what’s even more rewarding than a successful hunt is seeing the fruits of that labor put to good use. Ellison’s bull elephant taken in 2010 fed a village for weeks and his 10 trips to Africa have supported jobs and educational opportunities for hundreds of native Africans.
As Sonja writes in her piece, “life… becomes considerably more rewarding when our adventurous pursuits also uplift others.”
I suspect Mr. Ellison is right when he asserted to me recently, “Safari hunters feed more Africans every year than all the other charity groups combined.”
So, get out there this safari shopping season, hit up one of the area DSC shows, book an adventure of a lifetime and feel good that you’re not just guaranteeing yourself a great adventure, but you’re making the world a better place.
